These are the most common used cylinders

Material

A steel tank is used most commonly in NL/BE. They come in 200 and 300 Bar tanks. An Aluminium tank is lighter than a steel tank. However can only hold 200 Bar. The carbon tanks are even lighter than the aluminium ones, however, are only available in 300 bar.

Type

A mono valve is a valve with 1 connection point. A double valve has 2 connection points. A second connection can be fitted with a single valve with an extra port or with a lateral valve. A lateral valve is used for double set set-ups. You will always need a left and right valve with a manifold.

Working pressure of the valve. Note that the cylinder needs to have the same working pressure!

200 bar tanks can be filled up to 200 bar and sometimes even up to 232 bar. 300 bar tanks require a special DIN valve, and you will need a DIN300bar connection on 1st stage for the regulator set.

O-rings

Standard O-rings are suitable when using air. Viton O-rings are used when diving with Nitrox- Enriched air. However, they can also be used with air. Viton O-rings are generally recommended.

Type

A single tank consists of 1 tank cylinder and a valve. Depending on the type of tank it may come with a mesh netting and/or tank boot. A double set consists of 2 tanks, 2 lateral valves, a bridge and metal bands to stabalise the set. When we talk about a cylinder, it is just the cylinder without any valve.

Cylinder screw thread

The cylinder screw thread is the type of screw thread within the neck of the bottle. This needs to be the precise thread that matches the thread on the valve. NOTE: M25 valves may fit in a 3/4g thread when applying a little pressure. Please DO NOT use this combination. Pictures may not always correspond with the thread features. Valve choice

These types of tanks can be combined with several types of valves, which may come in handy when you would like a tank valve with 2 connection points.

Connection outlet

This is the screw thread of the valve where the 1st stage is connected. G5/8 is the standard screw thread. M26 is the screw thread which is wider, and is specifically used for Nitrox regsets with the same screw thread- NOTE: M26 is the EU standard for NX

Orientation

A left hand valve is a standard valve. When standing in front of the tank, the knob to open the valve is on the left hand side. A right hand valve is used when side-mounting or diving a double set.
