Most BCD’s are unisex, which means that both men and women can wear them. BCD’s for women are especially designed for women. These BCD’s are more narrow at the shoulders and shorter in length, to ensure that it is snug around the waist. Children’s BCD’s are available in smaller sizes.

BCD Type

BCD Type

A jacket BCD has air-chambers at the sides of the BCD. A wing BCD only has a bladder at the back. The pro’s of a jacket is that it will be easier to stay up-right at the surface. The pro of using a wing is that you will have more freedom of movement at the sides and front of the body.

Inflator

Inflator

A standard inflator is situated on the top left shoulder strap, allowing you to inflate and deflate the inflator with two buttons at the end of the inflator. An i3 inflator is situated on the lower left side of the BCD. The advantage of the i3 inflator is that it is attached on to the vest and easier to find. Another advantage is that you don’t have to change your position in the water to deflate the BCD.

Light-weight BCD’s are usually very compact in size as well as that they weight less than standard BCD’s. They are also good travel BCD’s. Standard BCD’s can also be used when traveling. However, the conscious traveler always thinks about their bagage allowance.
